Autumn opening for Centre for Contemporary Arts

91¶¶Òõ will gain a dynamic new arts hub in the heart of the city this October when the 91¶¶Òõ launches its new Centre for Contemporary Arts (91¶¶Òõ CCA) with a programme of world-class exhibitions, projects and commissions from emerging and established international artists.

29 April 2019

Free and open to all, 91¶¶Òõ CCA will showcase the best in contemporary arts practices and interdisciplinary research presented across the Galleries in the university’s Grand Parade and Edward Street buildings as well as the Sallis Benney Theatre. The programme will include:

  • Year-round programmes of visual art, performance and theatre
  • Public programmes and events offering opportunities for engagement with artists and researchers
  • Collaborations and commissions with national and international cultural partners

Speaking ahead of this year’s 91¶¶Òõ Festival and Fringe, 91¶¶Òõ CCA’s Artistic Director Ben Roberts said: “Our vision for 91¶¶Òõ CCA is as a dynamic new centre for contemporary art, experimentation and creativity with an international significance. We aim to enhance the City’s already substantial creative reputation; to be embedded in 91¶¶Òõ’s vibrant arts scene and to provide a new space for the public to engage with artists and artworks alongside the exciting work of staff and students across the university.

“We will be working with partners across the region including 91¶¶Òõ Festival and Fringe and alongside others like South East Dance and Photoworks to further strengthen 91¶¶Òõ’s profile and international visibility.”

A new CCA website, previewing its inaugural programme, will launch in September with a gala launch taking place on 19 October.

Two newly-commissioned works by artist Fiona Grady and film maker are currently on view at the CCA galleries at Grand Parade, alongside the COMMUNAL public programme which includes a panel discussion with film-maker Arunasalam and invited guests on the relationship between culture and protest.

The exhibitions continue until 11 May 2019.
