You can contact us at: awards@brighton.ac.uk.

Replacement certificates

Certificates awarded after 1992

To apply for a replacement certificate, you will need to (pdf) in its entirety. Along with the form, you should also include a form of photographic identification and make a payment of £40 via the .

Please remember that a confirmed payment alone does not constitute a successful application. Your request will only be processed once we have received the fully completed application form and the necessary photographic identification.

Ensure that the completed application form reaches the Academic Registry, as we are unable to follow up on incomplete applications.

Once your application is accepted, a new certificate will be printed and sent to you by recorded delivery.

Please note that this process can take up to 28 days from receipt of your application and cleared payment.

Any certificate not collected at the presentation of awards or sent to a confirmed postal address within five years will be destroyed and a replacement will need to be ordered via the online shop.

Degree certificates awarded 1965–1992

If you studied a degree course before September 1992 and after 1965, your award was validated by the Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA) and not the 91¶¶Òõ. The CNAA is no longer in existence, but the Open University holds its records and offers a validation service. Please go to the for information on how to proceed.

The university can supply verification letters confirming your award.

Other certificates awarded 1965–1992

Please contact the university if you would like a replacement certificate in this category. We will check our archives and let you know what we are able to produce for you.

Edexcel (BTEC HNC/D) certificates awarded 1994 and after

The university can only supply duplicate Edexcel or BTEC certificate from 1994 onwards. To apply for a replacement certificate, you will need to download and complete the application form in full, ensuring it is signed by the relevant certifying authority, before returning it to the Registry department, having made the appropriate payment via the online shop, where it will be reviewed before proceeding. Once your application has been accepted, we will print a new certificate which will be sent to you by recorded delivery.

Edexcel (BTEC HNC/D) certificates awarded before 1994

To apply for a replacement Edexcel (owned by Pearson) certificate prior to 1994, you will need to go to the and complete the application form or call 0345 618 0440.

Certified copies of certificates

Unless you are still local to 91¶¶Òõ, it is probably easier to go to a solicitor and ask them to make copies of your certificate and certify that it is an accurate copy of the original. However, should you wish the university to certify your certificate; you must post it back to us by recorded delivery and pay £10 for five copies. Please send your certificate and make the appropriate payment via the online shop.

Other verification services

Verification letters

We can provide a letter of verification confirming your award and the dates you studied with us. This will be printed on headed paper and stamped for authenticity. If you require a copy of this document please make the relevant payment via the and we will aim to return the documentation to you within two weeks.

Academic transcripts

If you graduated in 2001 or after, you can obtain a copy of your academic transcript which lists the modules you took and the credits you achieved. This will be printed on headed paper and stamped for authenticity. If you require a copy of this document please make the relevant payment via the online shop and we will aim to return the transcript to you within two weeks.

If you graduated before 2001 we are unfortunately unable to supply transcripts. However if you send an email to awards@brighton.ac.uk (providing your name, date of birth and address to which you would like the documents sent) we will send you a letter with the dates you studied, confirmation of your award and a copy of the prospectus page which details the breakdown of your course.

Third party verification

We regularly receive enquiries from third parties regarding evidence of your qualifications, however in most cases the Data Protection Act strictly prevents us from disclosing information. There are some circumstances where disclosure would be allowed – for example to a criminal investigation agency. In addition, you could consent to information being shared – for example to supply a reference to an employer or agency.

There is a new system that the university is using which is called Higher Education Degree Datacheck (). This is an online verification service for employers and agencies which verifies the 91¶¶Òõ awards. Please note, this service is only for use by third parties such as those verifying your qualifications for a job or for further study.

The system has been developed by Graduate Prospects, in consultation with universities, employers and screening agencies. HEDD is being used by many institutions throughout the UK.

We recommend that you encourage third parties who require verification of your qualifications to use this system because it is a quick, easy way for them to obtain the information and most organisations are already registered on the system. We would suggest that in the first incidence they ask to see your original degree certificate where this is available.

The online candidate verification service requires registered enquirers to input data which you will have to provide (your name, date of birth, course and qualification, year of graduation and degree result). You will need to have completed a which the third party will have to upload in order to give us permission to release confirmation of your qualifications. This consent form helps us to ensure that you are aware of the data share, have consented to the data share and that legal authority is in place to allow for the data share. It also helps to source and find the exact information requested.
