We also aim to enrich our students' experience by providing opportunities for them to develop their applied, scientific and professional skills. We have a strong commitment to evaluating and maximising the capability of an individual, group or product using a range of techniques that are informed by our research. Our professional, friendly and approachable team aim to provide a cost-effective and efficient service to all our clients.

Product testing 

We use our in-depth knowledge, research, and sport science theory and application to test products' validity, reliability, efficacy, and safety within the controlled settings of our laboratories. 

We have experience providing support at all stages of the product design process, from helping to establish proof of concept, prototype trials, through to getting the product to market.

Services for schools and colleges

Our sports science taster days offer a unique experience for students studying GCSE, BTEC, and A-Level physical education and sport and exercise science.

We work with schools and colleges in a number of different ways, helping to improve sport and exercise in schools and bring the subject to life for students.

Research-informed consultancy

Committed to an evidence-based practice model, all of the support we provide is underpinned by academic knowledge and understanding.

We regularly conduct research and use the latest scientific knowledge to ensure that our services are of the highest quality. Our applied research has been presented at conferences and workshops nationally and internationally to a range of audiences.

Examples of our applied research include:

  • Investigating the Relative Age Effect, a season-of-birth bias in junior footballers 
  • The physiology of a Masters aged race-walking World-Record holder 
  • An eight-week plyometric training programme for skilled adolescent golfers
  • Assessing representative task design in cricket batting: comparing an in-situ and laboratory-based task.

Our research groups have had a significant impact on the field of sport science and medicine, ranging from the development of new generation anti-doping tests to the successful implementation of community-based interventions to tackle childhood obesity.
