We want to help the UK to be healthy; we want it to thrive.

That is why we invest in programmes that support the health of the population through sport. We have expertise in exercise science, leisure culture, public health and rehabilitation and we can help you to tackle modern day challenges in sport, health and occupational settings.

Our focus

Positive living exercise programme

This partnership with Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, helps to address the physical, mental and social health related challenges faced by people living with HIV in Sussex.

The programme, based at , offers patients an assessment to help determine the exercises they should be doing and establish practical goals.

Burning fat

The university partnered with the Global Triathlon Network to help them investigate fat metabolism.  (GTN) provides content for professional and aspiring triathletes to inform, entertain and inspire them to become better triathlete.

Using the university's , they were able to measure the most effective ways of burning the most amount of fat during aerobic exercise. Watch the results in this .

Athlete support

We have worked with Paralympic and Olympic competitors, the Olympic Committee, individual athletes and sports clubs to help them prepare for events while staying at the peak of their health.

Our Environmental Extremes Laboratory carries out research into the impact of heat and other environmental stressors on the body. The research was so highly regarded that national sporting bodies in Brazil and the UK adopted heat-related principles and practices based on the research.

Environmental Extremes Laboratory

Exercise and active living can really help to improve our physical and emotional health but not everyone has access to these facilities, or can find facilities that are tailored to their needs or requirements, and that's a problem area that the Positive Living Programme is trying to address.
