Frequently asked questions

Can I use my scholarship for other means? eg housing

The scholarship can only be applied as a reduction to your tuition fees.

I'm an international student currently residing in the UK. Am I eligible for this scholarship?

Yes, international students from eligible countries who are currently in the UK are eligible for the scholarship, providing all other criteria is met.

What happens if I apply for the International Office scholarship but am also eligible for the Vice-Chancellor scholarship?

The International Office scholarship is for those that are not eligible for any of the Vice-Chancellor scholarships. You can only be in receipt of one scholarship, therefore if you are eligible for the Vice-Chancellor scholarship, this will be the scholarship you are awarded.

Am I entitled to the scholarship if I enter straight on to the second-year of my course, or I'm studying a top-up degree?

If you are an advanced-entry undergraduate student entering directly into Year 2 you will be entitled to a £2,500 tuition fee discount for your first year at the University, followed by a £1,500 discount for your second year. Top-up degree students are entitled to a discount of £2,500.

I have deferred my enrolment, can I use my scholarship for next year?

You will not be able to defer your scholarship to a different intake or academic year, please keep an eye on this webpage for more information.

I'm an international student originally from an eligible region but temporarily residing in a region that is not eligible. Can I receive a scholarship?

Yes, providing all other criteria is met. The International Office may ask for further evidence in order to verify your eligibility. Please email us if you have a question about your eligibility on InternationalOffice@brighton.ac.uk.

When will I see the scholarship deducted?

The scholarship will be applied after 31 October, provided you have paid 50% of your tuition fee by the 31 October deadline. Your payment will be 50% of the total fee amount before the scholarship has been deducted, for example, if your tuition fee was £15,900 and you were awarded a £2,500 scholarship, you will need to have paid £7,950, inclusive of your deposit (if required).

You will not see your scholarship reflected in your fee anywhere before 31 October. If you have a payment plan in place  to pay your tuition fee by credit/debit card, the Finance department will update your plan with the new figures after 31 October and email a new schedule to you where you will be able to see that your final payment instalment has been reduced.

When will I see my VC scholarship deducted when I enter year's 2 and 3 of my course?

Your second-year and third-year instalments of the VC scholarship will be applied in the same way as your first-year. The amount will be applied after 31 October, provided you have paid 50% of your tuition fee by the 31 October deadline. This will be 50% of the total fee amount before the scholarship has been deducted eg if your tuition fee for that year was £15,900 and the instalment of the VC scholarship for your second year is £1,500, you will need to have paid £7,950.

You will not see your scholarship reflected in your fee anywhere before 31 October. If you have a payment plan in place by credit/debit card to pay your tuition fees, the Finance department will update your plan with the new figures after 31 October and email a new schedule to you where you will be able to see that your final payment instalment has been reduced.
