Consultancy

We help businesses and not-for-profit organisations explore key issues relating to their operations and performance. Our consultancy work enables us to transfer our research findings into practical solutions. We have a strong track record in the fields of event bids, customer service, hospitality and retail management and deliver meaningful insights.

We have conducted market research on behalf of organisations including the Institute of Customer Service (ICS) and Tourism South East (TSE). As part of our wider Research, Enterprise and Social Partnerships (RESP) activity, we work with a range of independent SMEs and assist local businesses in developing their brand, merchandising and marketing strategies.

We advise on culture, people and performance, focusing on human resource management practices, employee welfare, mobility and performance management. We share our expertise on online technologies, consumer studies, wellbeing and food retailing.

In addition to published work, we make contributions to research forums such as the Council for Hospitality Management (CHME), European Council on Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Education (EuroChrie), the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and the British Academy of Management (BAM).

Knowledge transfer partnerships (KTPs)

The Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) programme is a national government scheme helping businesses access academic expertise to improve their productivity and competitiveness.

A KTP creates a three-way partnership between a company, a graduate and the university, enabling organisations to access knowledge, technology and skills, which can transform business performance. The company, graduate and university benefit from the collaboration, gaining business growth, invaluable experience and academic recognition respectively.

A KTP differs from consultancy in that a project team comprised of the academics, company and graduate work together to deliver a strategic project, ensuring that knowledge transferred is embedded in the company to provide a legacy benefit.

We have completed a number of successful KTPs funded by the ESRC and TSB and specialise in the areas of niche retailing, retail vending, retail start-up businesses, retail marketing and charity retailing.

We’d be delighted to talk about your business. We can identify an academic team with specialist knowledge relevant to your circumstances and work with you to recruit a skilled graduate to manage a specific strategic project in your organisation. We will supervise the graduate, transferring knowledge through them to help your business innovate, grow and improve. You will receive tailored advice and support through the project lifecycle.

For further information, please visit our KTP page.
