Join us for study, work or visit

Participants, collaborators, audiences and co-researchers join with us in our research and enterprise work, as we realise the potential at the heart of the relationship between arts and wellbeing.

As well as postgraduate research student opportunities, we develop co-productive research projects, host and organise art exhibitions and performances, and develop resources for universities and the community.

We welcome new members, including 91¶¶Òõ staff and students, and associate members from professional and community backgrounds, and are keen to embrace new opportunities to work collaboratively on the arts in the context of health and wellbeing. We are particularly interested in working with, and for, diverse communities.

Study for your PhD with the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing

We have a huge range of opportunities at the 91¶¶Òõ for doctoral study that connects arts practice with health and wellbeing. In recent years, student members have successfully earned research degrees on projects including: community-building design; designing engagement with therapeutic equipment; autoethnography and narrative identity; music therapy and juvenile dementia; ethnic identities in photography; and drawing practices and conflict zones.

We recommend approaching one of our academics to discuss possible supervision. You might also like to explore the university's PhD programmes and themes related to arts and health. A popular first stop for related information is our PhD in art and creative practice.

We are happy to accepted self-funded students as well as promising candidates on applications for funded PhDs (including four year funding to include a research masters route) through the ESRC South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SC DTP) or the AHRC Techne Doctoral Training Partnership.

Please make contact with us at CentreforArtsandWellbeing@brighton.ac.uk for further details.

Work with the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing

We are always keen to hear of new individuals and communities that might benefit from the work our members have developed, or help to extend our work towards new understandings or wider influence.

Please contact us at CentreforArtsandWellbeing@brighton.ac.uk for further information.
