Apprenticeships safeguarding

The 91¶¶Òõ owes to each of its students a duty to take reasonable care for their wellbeing and health and safety. The University is committed to practice that reflects this duty of care to all students, and that all children and adults using its services and facilities are protected from harm.

How does this apply to apprenticeships?

The 91¶¶Òõ is committed to practice that reflects its duty of care to all students, including apprentices.

The welfare of our students is paramount, and all individuals regardless of age, disability, gender identity, race/ethnicity, religious belief, sex/gender, sexual orientation, or other status have the right to equal protection from all types of harm and abuse.

We aim to work in partnership with those for whom we have a duty of care and with appropriate individuals and agencies in promoting safeguarding.

For apprenticeships, this extends to our employer partners who have a duty of care to comply with UK legislation and statutory responsibilities. We expect employers to take responsibility for their apprentice’s welfare in the workplace and to seek appropriate advice and guidance when they feel their apprentice may be at risk.

What should I do if I have a welfare concern about an apprentice?

  • If you feel there is an immediate risk to an apprentice’s safety, or the safety of others call 999.
  • Contact the Technical Education & Apprenticeship Hub to raise a concern by emailing our Apprentice Support Coordinators at apprenticesupport@brighton.ac.uk

How can an apprentice access support or advice?

  • Your Support Network is available via
  • You can discuss any concern with your Student Support & Guidance Tutor
  • Contact the Technical Education & Apprenticeship Hub to raise a concern by emailing our Apprentice Support Coordinators at apprenticesupport@brighton.ac.uk
