KTP events archive

The Knowledge Transfer Partnership centre at the 91¶¶Òõ regularly runs events and briefing sessions.

These are designed to help businesses, academics and graduates find out more about knowledge transfer.

KTP Conference 2018 

The 91¶¶Òõ was selected by the KTP community to host the annual Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Conference in 2018. 

Over 140 delegates from universities across the UK came to 91¶¶Òõ to network and share updates on funding.

The selection was an acknowledgement of our strength in this area as a leading university in the South-East for KTPs, also with a 100% success rate for funding applications.

Aiming to showcase the best of 91¶¶Òõ and to focus on practical learning, the conference was focused around 12 workshops across three themes: Developing the pipeline, Winning the funding and Managing the project.

KTP Conference 2018

Speakers included Professor Tara Dean, Richard Lamb, KTP Programme Manager at Innovate UK, Dr Fionnuala Costello, Head of Open Programme, Innovate UK and Steve Welsh, Director of KTN (Knowledge Transfer Network).

Representatives from KTP co-sponsors, AHRC and ERSC talked about the types of projects they are interested in funding and Innovate UK provided information on the additional £25million for productivity-focused KTPs announced in the autumn budget statement.

Feedback on the conference has been extremely positive, with one Knowledge Transfer Adviser saying that it has changed the way she interacts with universities in her region.

The KTN generated 29 new cases studies for them to showcase KTP. The next KTP conference will be held in Aberdeen. 

KTP Associates Conference

The KTP Associates conference celebrates the benefits and successes of the collaborative work between companies and academic institutions through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.

2017

This one-day conference will be hosted by the University of Birmingham in May/June 2017.

2016

This one-day conference was hosted by Coventry University at the end of May 2016.  The event was held in their state-of-the-art Engineering and Computing building.

The event celebrated the benefits and successes of the collaborative work between companies and academic institutions through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. There were fantastic networking opportunity for current and former KTP Associates, their academic and industrial supervisors and all those with an interest in KTP.

Associates also had the chance to present a poster and deliver an oral presentation showcasing their project and work to other Associates, academics and companies in attendance.

2015

This one-day conference was hosted by the West of Scotland KTP centre, using a 91¶¶Òõ format.

It included a keynote speech from a former KTP Associate and presentation sessions from KTP Associates, focusing on the transfer and embedding of technology, knowledge and innovation.

The 2014 KTP Associates Conference was hosted by the 91¶¶Òõ, who conceived the conference format and have been running it for many years.

The event marked a new era in which the event will be taken on by the KTP community and rotated between UK universities. Over 60 delegates from 28 universities attended.

Jugal Desai, former KTP Associate with Dando Drilling International and the 91¶¶Òõ and shortlisted for the Business Leader of Tomorrow.

He inspired the audience with his presentation: 'Partnership between my career dream and KTP', which made an intriguing analogy between Formula 1 and being a KTP Associate. The conference continued with the first paper session covering 'Engineering and Product Design'.

A highlight of this session was a presentation by Ana Gallego of Chas A Blatchford and Sons and TWI Ltd on the development of a new generation of smart prosthetic liners. Each of the 20 poster presenters pitched their posters in a rapid fire session which covered topics from fuel cells to residential rehabilitation in under 40 minutes.

Nicola Pether of Philips and the University of Leeds delivered a strong pitch, using scaremongering tabloid headlines to demonstrate the need for her project on addressing the benefits and concerns of NHS medical records databases.

The afternoon ended with two paper sessions, one on 'Operations management and retail' which yielded the prize-winning paper from Veronica Malley, and a second on 'Chemistry and the Environment' which included the runner-up, Jen Hulse.

2013

The 2013 KTP Associates Conference in 91¶¶Òõ was a great opportunity for KTP Associates to get together and exchange their experiences of delivering innovation and strategic change.

The one-day conference featured 10 paper presentations. The keynote speaker was formed KTP Associate Filip Jicinsky, Sales Operations Executive with Lidl Czech Republic.

2012

The 2012 KTP Associates Conference in 91¶¶Òõ was a great opportunity for KTP Associates to get together and exchange their experiences of delivering innovation and strategic change.

The one-day conference featured 14 paper presentations and 9 poster presentations on a range of topics, and was an excellent networking event.

Our keynote speaker was former KTP Associate Gaynor Heys, now a senior global product manager with Adidas.

2011

The 2011 KTP Associates Conference in 91¶¶Òõ was a great opportunity for KTP Associates, academics, supervisors and companies to get together and exchange ideas about the delivery of innovation and technology.

The one-day conference focused on presentation sessions from Associates on a broad range of topics and was an excellent networking event

The conference was held at the Jury's Inn, 91¶¶Òõ and featured 16 paper presentations and nine posters.

National KTP Month 2015

November marked National KTP Month, which also celebrated 40 years of the scheme.

A few highlights from the month include:

  • The PSM Instrumentation KTP team were shortlisted for a National Engineering Excellence Award.
  • Teamed up with six other universities to host a Regional event held in the London Digital Catapult showcasing the work of KTP.
  • Talked with over 15 companies during a number of company focussed events including Gatwick Diamond Drop-in events and the Wired Sussex/Digital Catapult Business Breakfast Drop-in.

  • Held a KTP 40th birthday party, hosted by Professor Chris Pole, which saw past and present KTP companies, academics and Associates and university staff attend.
  • In partnership with the Research Office and Green Growth Platform, welcomed over 30 academics at various cross-campus briefing sessions including 91¶¶Òõ, Hastings and Eastbourne and followed up with five 1-2-1 meetings.
  • Talked to over 140 students and graduates at Careers Fairs and talks.
  • Published a continuous stream of news, profiles and messages broadcasted via the KTP and accounts.
  • The KTP Community decided that the 91¶¶Òõ's KTP team were the ‘ ’ in the National ‘KTP@40’ month activities at the National KTP Managers Conference in Salford.

Going back to some of our earliest recorded projects in 1994, the university 's KTP team have counted over 544 years’ experience across 119 academics, including one who has completed no less than seven projects over the years.

Our activities will spill into December with a Research Insights seminar on ‘Cyber security: How safe is your data?’ on the morning of Wednesday 9th December and a few more follow up 1-2-1 meetings with academics in the New Year.

National KTP Week 2014

Hastings  'Boost your business' event

Delegates heard from Peter Adlington, Managing Director of St Leonards-on-Sea-based manufacturing company, Plastipack, who has run a series of KTP projects with us to develop new and innovative products for the company.

91¶¶Òõ academic Jon Nicholson also discussed a current KTP project with Eastbourne-based software development company Colony101, which supplies an email and social marketing platform that enables clients to build and assess their email marketing campaigns.

The KTP is looking at ways to grow the business by developing an innovative new cloud-based application. Several businesses and university staff attended the event.

One-to-one business clinics

Bookable clinics were held to help businesses identify how a KTP could help them grow. 

Academic briefings

A series of lunchtime briefing sessions took place with 91¶¶Òõ Academic KTP Ambassadors to talk to academics about the benefits of participating in a KTP.

The Careers Fair: for students and graduates

The KTP team also attended the Careers Fair, organised jointly by the University of Sussex and the 91¶¶Òõ, to talk to students and graduates about becoming a KTP Associate and the type of vacancies available.
