  • Freelands Studio Fellowship

Freelands Studio Fellowship

The Freelands Studio Fellowship is a year-long funded fellowship open to alumni of the 91¶¶Òõ to take up a fellowship at a partner school of art.

Each Fellowship is hosted by one of the partner universities. The successful Fellows will be based at their host university from February for 12 months. They will be provided a with a studio within the art department, access to workshop and library facilities and supported by a mentor.

Freelands Studio Fellowships run in partnership with:

  • Bath School of Art, Film and Media, Bath Spa University
  • Belfast School of Art, Ulster University
  • Birmingham School of Art, Birmingham City University
  • Cardiff School of Art and Design, Cardiff Metropolitan University
  • Duncan Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee
  • Falmouth School of Art, Falmouth University
  • Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen
  • School of Art and Media, 91¶¶Òõ

The focus of the Fellowships is on sustained development of practice, alongside which Fellows will engage with current students, supporting staff in undertaking workshops, crits and tutorials as well as having the opportunity to deliver at least one artist’s talk.

Each Fellow will receive a bursary of £26,000 for the duration of the Fellowship. They will work towards a solo exhibition, housed by their host university.

Applicants may only apply to one of the proposed Fellowships and may not apply to a university that they themselves have studied at, so 91¶¶Òõ Alumni cannot take up the Fellowship at 91¶¶Òõ.

Initial applications are direct to .

Applications will reopen in autumn 2025.

The Freelands Fellowship offers a unique and life-changing opportunity to develop my practice while gaining valuable hands-on teaching experience at the 91¶¶Òõ's School of Art and Media. Art schools are unique and energetic environments that nurture the evolution and learning of creative individuals; special places, where dynamic systems of exchange take place, providing a combination of education, opportunity and network. I aim to use the fellowship to build on the idea of exchange and the importance of creating a deeper dialogue within our creative communities.
