Bursaries

There are bursaries available to postgraduate students studying for qualifications in social work, teaching (PGCE) and pre-registration allied health courses.

Social Work MSc

In previous years, students on this course who met the eligibility criteria (for example, residence) were nominated for and received a bursary. We will advise our offer holders as soon as we receive further information from the Department for Health and Social Care about bursaries for the current and future years.

Should bursaries continue to be available this year, we anticipate using the prioritisation process set out within national guidance. This means that we will prioritise applicants based upon their prior educational achievement and interview performance, taking other factors into account where appropriate and particularly in the event of a tie break situation.

To apply and for further information, visit the website for .

NHS Business Services authority will update their website when details for 2025–26 become available.

91¶¶Òõ bursaries

You may be eligible for a 91¶¶Òõ bursary if you are starting a course in academic year 2025-26 which is:

  • a non-salaried designated PGCE course
  • an eligible postgraduate pre-registration allied health course

Find out more about the additional criteria that apply.

PGCE students

Government funding is available to graduates training in a range of PGCE subjects from the Department for Education (DfE). Eligible students can apply for a bursary or may be awarded a DfE scholarship.

Pre-registration nursing, midwifery and allied health courses

Eligible new and continuing students studying undergraduate and postgraduate pre-registration nursing, midwifery and some allied health courses can apply to the NHS Learning Support Fund, for additional funding including a Training Grant of £5,000 each academic year.
