Are you ready to make the most out of your university experience, but worried about the cost of living? Don't stress – we've got your back!

BSU Essentials is a brand-new initiative from the , dedicated to making sure that every student has access to the essentials they need to thrive. Essentials is your go-to resource for free food, household supplies, clothing, personal hygiene products and more. We’re here to help you navigate financial difficulties so you can focus on what truly matters – your studies and making the most of your university life.

What is BSU Essentials?

Comprehensive support if you find yourself in tough times

  • Free food pantry: Stocked with fresh produce, canned goods, and snacks to keep you nourished.
  • Household supplies: From cleaning products to toiletries, we’ve got you covered.
  • Clothing and electricals: Need a warm jacket for the winter or a kettle for your room? Find it here.
  • Personal hygiene products: Access to all the essentials to help you feel your best.

A no-judgement zone

  • We understand that everyone can face tough times. At BSU Essentials, our friendly staff are here to help you to access the support you need without fear of judgement.

Expert advice and guidance

  • Alongside essential supplies, we offer invaluable advice on budgeting, debt management and accessing further financial support. Meet with our advisors to ensure you’re getting all the benefits and student finance you’re eligible for.

  • Take what you need

Access our range of free items up and get information on hardship funds and other schemes around the university to tackle the cost of living.

  • Get support

We ask that everyone that visits BSU Essentials more than twice to speak with our advisors. They will help you understand your finances and maximise your budget, so you never have to worry about missing out on university life. 

Launching mid-September

BSU Essentials is a community effort. We’re proud to partner with to bring you surplus food from local supermarkets. Plus, with generous donations from fellow students and staff, our shelves are always stocked with essentials. Want to give back? You can donate items to help your peers or look out for job opportunities with BSU.
