Over 500,000,000 people worldwide live with diabetes, with numbers increasing every year. For people with Type 1 Diabetes, daily life exists in a balance between measuring levels of glucose in the blood and injecting insulin to keep that blood glucose within a healthy target range.

Can we replace the damaged insulin-producing cells in people with diabetes? Well, the answer is yes, but how this can be achieved may surprise you. The cells in our body work beautifully because they talk to each other. Utilising the extraordinary weightless environment of microgravity, we have discovered how human insulin-producing cells grow and develop in 3D.

Could this be the key to producing enough human insulin-producing cells to treat all patients with diabetes? And what else can 3D microgravity cell growth teach us about human diseases? Join Professor Wendy Macfarlane to find out.

Free event. All are welcome. If you would like to attend, please register online no later than 48 hours prior to the event.
