This research project was commissioned by the Aga Khan University, Nairobi, Kenya. There were two studies undertaken in this project.

Project aims

The initial study in 2011 was aimed at identifying and assessing key knowledge and skill gaps in the tourism, leisure and hospitality sectors in the developing world; the 2012 study aimed at identifying and assessing Postgraduate and Research Programmes in Sub-Sahara Africa. 

Project findings and outcomes

These two studies produced:

  • recommendations on ways to bridge the gap in Postgraduate and Executive education in Africa
  • informed the AKU strategic decision to invest in this field and in the establishment of a new Tourism focused Graduate and Research School in East Africa.
