Summer pre-sessional English courses

If you want to spend the summer in 91¶¶Òõ developing your English language skills before starting your degree, then our summer pre-sessional English courses are perfect for you.

These pre-sessional English courses are designed to give you a solid grounding in English language, giving you the confidence to succeed at university level. Our summer courses last five or 10 weeks depending on your current English language abilities, and are delivered by the 91¶¶Òõ International College on our Moulsecoomb campus in 91¶¶Òõ.

You'll get the chance to study alongside students from all over the world in the beautiful city of 91¶¶Òõ & Hove. The city has a lively, youthful feel and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK.

Our city is full of opportunities with a beautiful coastline, interesting culture and history, and is famous for its festivals and events.

Combined CAS for your pre-sessional and university course

You may be eligible for a combined CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) number for the pre-sessional English course and your subsequent academic course, if you meet certain UKVI conditions. The university will assess your eligibility for a combined CAS during your admissions application.

On-campus pre-sessional English bursary

About this bursary

We're offering a £1,000 bursary for our on-campus pre-sessional English courses.

Students undertaking any of our on-campus pre-sessional English courses will receive a £1,000 reduction on their degree programme tuition fee. 

This bursary can be combined with other scholarships at the 91¶¶Òõ, such as the Vice-Chancellor scholarships.

Eligibility criteria

You must meet all of the below eligibility criteria:

  • be a new, international fee-status student joining the 91¶¶Òõ

  • be starting your course in September 2025

  • be a self-funded student

  • if you are in receipt of a conditional offer, you must meet the conditions of your offer

  • have paid 50% of your tuition fee (before the bursary discount is applied) by the first tuition fee payment deadline.

You will not be eligible if:

  • your course is a PGCert, PGDip, MPhil or PhD

  • your course is the Diploma in Professional Studies in Accounting (ACCA)

  • you are an applicant for 91¶¶Òõ and Sussex Medical School

  • you are receiving funding from external bodies such as local government, charities or private organisations

  • you are an existing student.

If you are ready to book your place on either the five or 10-week course, you can complete the online booking form (when available).

Unfortunately you would not be able to complete the summer pre-sessional English courses if you are studying any of the following courses, as the results would not be available before your course start date: 

  • Any of our PGCE teaching courses
  • Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) MSc
  • Occupational Therapy (Pre-registration) MSc
  • Diagnostic Radiography (Pre-registration) MSc
  • Podiatry (Pre-registration) MSc
