Beyond being frugal and shopping around, there are plenty of ways to save as a student. We’ve provided some advice you might find helpful.

Shopping tips

It's easy to spend money and much harder to save. But, by taking a few precautions you can make a trip into town far more affordable.

  • Do your research – especially when making a large purchase.
  • Ask other students about the cheapest local shops and markets.
  • Keep receipts and guarantees in case things go wrong.
  • Check with shops to see if you can get a student discount with your TOTUM card.
  • Always invest in a good quality coat, footwear and a bag for university.
  • Use vouchers when you go shopping. For a good collection of vouchers and online discount codes, visit .

Secondhand shopping
