Looking after yourself

It's important to look after your health at university.

There are plenty of services available for all your medical, fitness and even grooming needs!

Healthcare

Available services

All students should register with a local GP when they get to university. You can find out how to register with your GP online.

International students attending a course for more than six months qualify for free NHS healthcare. For more information see UKCISA's health advice for international students.

There are also free NHS walk-in clinics in 91¶¶Òõ.

NHS low income scheme

Even if you are not exempt from all NHS charges, if you have a low household income you may be able to get help with paying for:

  • NHS prescriptions
  • NHS dental treatment
  • Sight tests, glasses and contact lenses
  • Travel to receive NHS treatment
  • NHS wigs and fabric supports.

For more information see the

Dental services

All students can register with the University of Sussex dentist, in the Health Centre on the Sussex campus at Falmer.

Alternatively, you can register with a local NHS dentist.

Exercise

Walking

See the South Downs National Park and East Sussex County Council for routes.

Cycling

The Sustrans or East Sussex County Council have excellent routes on file for cyclists.

If you haven’t got a bike, you can buy one second-hand through a number of local sites:
