  • Religious observance during exams

Religious observance during exams

We respect the rights and religious views of our students and are aware that certain religious festivals and holy days may coincide with the main exam periods in the academic timetable.

If this happens during the January–February and summer exam periods, it is important to let us know. We aim to treat requests regarding religious observance with understanding and consistency.

What you should do

If you are unable to take exams on a particular day, you are responsible for completing a 'Religious observance and examination arrangements form' and giving it to your Course Leader by:

  • 15 November for January–February exams
  • 1 March for summer exams.

Alternative arrangements

Once informed, the school will make every reasonable effort to accommodate students who are unable to take exams on particular dates. But owing to the logistical difficulties of scheduling a large number of exams involving thousands of students and a limited number of days, it may not always be possible to avoid those dates/times.

The school’s decision is final and there is no right of appeal if the school is not able to make such an alternative arrangement for a student.

Where a request is approved

Where a formal request is authorised and the student is permitted to not sit the exam at the scheduled time, the school will make every reasonable effort to ensure an alternative arrangement for the student is possible. This may include taking the same exam at an earlier or later start time, or taking the exam at the next opportunity.

Support

The Student Wellbeing Service, your Student Support and Guidance Tutor (SSGT) or the can advise you on how best to manage your religious commitments during exam periods.
