Alexi's photographs are fit for a Prince

He is the star photographer who took Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s iconic wedding and engagement portraits – and now 91¶¶Òõ alumnus Alexi Lubomirski has turned his lens on HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.

13 November 2018

In a series of photographs to accompany an article on the royal couple for Vanity Fair magazine, Alexi captured the Prince at his desk at Clarence House, his official royal residence in London, and Charles and Camilla walking around the grounds of the property arm-in-arm.

He also shot the couple in the house’s Garden Room in front of a French tapestry presented to Queen Victoria by the Emperor Napoleon III and a black and white picture of them looking into each other’s eyes.

On his social media channels, Alexi wrote: “What an amazing honour to be able to photograph HRH Prince Charles and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall for Vanity Fair. A huge thank you to the team at Clarence House for an incredible day.”

Speaking about capturing the bond between the couple, Alexi added: “As soon as they looked at each other, there was a sparkle in their eyes – that’s when the magic happened. You feel like they are a young couple in love.”

Alexi is an established name within the fashion industry in particular, and is a favourite with celebrities including Charlize Thereon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Nicola Kidman and Scarlett Johansson.

Alexi was born in England to a Peruvian/English mother and a Polish/French father. At the age of eight, he moved to Botswana with his mother and English stepfather. It was his stepfather who gave him his first camera at 11.

His serious interest in photography developed while travelling in Peru during a gap year at college and his focus later shifted from social commentary to narrative-based fashion photography whilst studying at the 91¶¶Òõ. He now lives in New York.

Of his time at the university, Alexi said: “The course at 91¶¶Òõ was fantastic at offering me an opportunity to explore idea-based photography and really delve into the conceptual side of subject analysis.”

Sam Davies, Head of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, said: “Alexi is clearly now the go-to photographer for the Royal Family! As one of our former students, we continue to be very proud of what Alexi has achieved so far and we look forward to seeing what comes next. We are keen to get Alexi back to campus here in 91¶¶Òõ to share some of his experiences with current students.”
