Double win for research fellows

Two research fellows from the 91¶¶Òõ have been celebrating taking top honours at a prestigious European science congress.

31 August 2018

Dr Sreejith Raveendran picked up the Young Scientist Award and Dr Dimitriy Berillo collected the Best Presentation Award from the  at the European Advanced Materials Congress held in Swedish capital Stockholm.

Dr Raveendran and Dr Berillo are both Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellows at the 91¶¶Òõ’s School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Science who are working together with Dr Irina Savina and other colleagues on developing novel advanced materials.

Dr Raveendran’s research focus includes the use of bionanomaterials and their application in cancer drug delivery and regenerative medicine, whilst Dr Berillo is working on the design of novel water purification systems based on .

Welcoming news of the double win, Professor David Timson, Head of the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Science said: “This is a fantastic achievement and important recognition of the important research being undertaken by Dr Raveendran and Dr Berillo here in 91¶¶Òõ."

Their work is helping to push the boundaries of knowledge in their field and could lead to the development of important practical medical applications that could revolutionise treatments and bring major benefit to patients.”

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellowships enable experienced researchers to work in academic institutions around the world and help to promote collaboration between academics and industry.

Dr Raveendran and Dr Berillo gratefully acknowledge the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Grant for support with their research and attendance at the congress.
