Bumper Graduation

More than 1,900 students are graduating from the 91¶¶Òõ, the highest number for Winter Ceremonies since 2010, and many will be receiving their degrees on Friday 16 February.

12 February 2018

The graduands, ranging in age from 19 to 72 and from around the UK and 61 other countries, will be at the 91¶¶Òõ Centre to receive their awards from Professor Debra Humphris, the University’s Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Humphris said: “It is a privilege for me to share this special occasion with the students and to celebrate their fantastic achievements. They can be extremely proud and so too can their families, friends, lecturers and indeed, the entire University community.

“Our graduates today represent an extraordinary pool of talent that will make a huge difference to their families and communities. They embody the vital role that universities play in society.”

There will be a special award during the day:

Jennie Price will be made an Honorary Doctor of Letters in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the promotion of diversity within grass-roots sports. A barrister by training, Jennie has been the Chief Executive of Sport England since April 2007 and the driving force behind the 'this girl can' campaign which tells the real stories of women who exercise and play sport. Mrs Price received a CBE in the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours for service to sport, especially increasing women and girls participation in sport.

Keynote speaker will be Wesley Ankrah, Managing Director of Essential Living Future (ELF), and a Criminology and Sociology graduate from the 91¶¶Òõ. He works to bring training, work experience and apprenticeships to young people living in some of the most disadvantaged communities in London. ELF aims to provide opportunities for young people to reduce these inequalities and create a platform for young people to succeed in later life.

Family members, friends and supporters will be attending each of the ceremonies during the day, with many more watching via Livestream.
