Students' month-long fund raising for RNLI

91¶¶Òõ students held a month of events to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute in Eastbourne.

7 August 2017

The students collected more than £800 from a recycled  fashion show at the Loft Bar in Eastbourne, a quiz night and an exhibition of art from Cavendish School, The Haven School and Lindfield School, and pirate-themed ball.

Those taking part are all undergraduate and postgraduate students studying International Events.

Accepting the cheque for £824, Eastbourne lifeboats Operations Manager Carl Pocock thanked the students for their “excellent work” and said the money would go towards equipping new volunteers with the specialist equipment they need to continue the station’s committed mission of saving lives at sea.

Katharina Buerger, studying International Event Management MSc, said: “Living in Eastbourne means you can enjoy the perks of living by the sea. What many people forget about are the dangers of the natural element water. By choosing the RNLI as the charity we wanted to support, we saw a great opportunity to engage with the local community and especially school pupils and make them aware of the importance of knowing about water safety.

“The children were fascinated by the RNLI volunteers, who supported us by attending our event and brought along their kits, which the pupils could try on. We hope that the funds we raised help the RNLI to keep up their valuable and great work for the community and to save lives at sea.”

Undergraduate students taking part in the fund-raising events were: Patsy Beck, Selina Cresswell, Flo Hales, Richy Huck, Priya Radhakrishnan, Gloria Shiranova, Elysia Charles, Stathis Oreopoulos, Gee Shea, Aristotelis Vontzalidis, Amy Chandler, Joshua Mays, Pejmon Mohammadian-Khansary, Amber Morris. Bronwyn Robihcaud, and Jade-Lousie Tufano.

Postgraduate students involved were: Wael Albogami, Katharina Buerger, Juleene Jackson, Olga Manou.
